Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about living with Episeras — from battery life and cleaning to data, alerts and travel. If you still have a question, our support team is here to help.

The device is designed to last a full waking day — approximately 18 hours — on a single charge.

No. Episeras should be removed before showering, bathing or any activity where it may come into direct contact with water, as the device should not be exposed to liquids.

The app keeps a history of alerts. If you miss one, check the app status — unless you have manually dismissed it, a log reminder will display on screen. If you feel unwell, take safety precautions regardless of the alert status. You can always log a seizure manually, independently of alerts.

Episeras is used together with a dedicated app that connects to the wearable sensor. The underlying platform is designed for use with both iOS and Android smartphones.

Yes. An active internet connection is not required for real-time seizure risk prediction. However, at least weekly internet access is needed to synchronise data and update cloud records.

Wipe the earpiece and sensors regularly with a wet wipe. If deeper cleaning is needed, use a cloth lightly moistened with alcohol, but avoid aggressive cleaning products. Do not wash the device under water or expose it to liquid. The wires inside the earpiece are thin and fragile, so clean it gently and with care. For more information, check the cleaning instructions provided with your device or the instructional video.

A false alert means the system detected a pattern that resembles a preictal state, but no seizure followed.

Yes. Episeras can be used during normal daily activities, including light-to-moderate exercise. However, avoid situations where the device could be exposed to water (it is not waterproof), excessive sweat or impact. Risk sports are not allowed.

Episeras is worn in one ear only. You can wear an earbud, earpod or hearing aid in the other ear. Avoid placing other devices in the same ear as Episeras, as this may affect its positioning and performance.

Yes, you can travel with Episeras. It is a non-invasive wearable device and can be used during daily activities. Make sure your phone is charged and connected, and when flying, follow general airline rules for electronic devices.

Episeras is not recommended for use during sleep. It is designed for use during waking hours, when alerts can help you take active safety measures.

Missing a day is not harmful, but Episeras works best with continuous use. Regular wear helps the algorithm learn your patterns and maintain optimal performance.

Episeras relies on your smartphone to analyse data and send alerts. If your phone battery runs out, alerts will not be generated until the connection is restored. Keeping your phone charged is important for continuous monitoring.

No. Episeras is designed to inform you about seizure risk, not to guide medication decisions. Always follow your doctor’s instructions regarding rescue medication. Alerts should be used to take safety precautions, not to replace medical advice.

Your brain activity data is securely processed and stored within the Episeras system. It is used to personalise your detection model and improve performance. Access is limited to authorised systems and healthcare-related use, in line with data protection regulations.

You can contact support through the Patient Support or the contact details provided during onboarding. The support team can help with setup, troubleshooting and ongoing use.

Mild discomfort may occur initially as you get used to wearing the device. If irritation persists, stop using the device temporarily, ensure proper fit and hygiene, and contact your healthcare provider or support team.

Not all alerts from Episeras are related to seizure risk. You may also receive system- or device-related notifications, such as low phone battery, loss of connection between the earpiece and your phone, or issues affecting signal quality. These alerts help ensure the device is working properly and can continue to monitor your brain activity effectively.

Yes. Wearing earrings or similar accessories does not interfere with Episeras. The device sits in the ear canal and is not affected by jewellery.

The app uses the same language as your smartphone’s operating system. To change it, go to your phone’s general settings and update the device language — the app will follow automatically.

Yes. Because Episeras does not require an active internet connection for real-time seizure risk prediction, it continues to work during flights, even in airplane mode. After landing, reconnect to the internet so any data recorded during the flight can be synchronised and uploaded to the cloud. Bluetooth must always be connected.
